Why You Should Book a Castle for Your Family Reunion

It’s not very often that you get to spend a weekend or a week with some of your favorite people just catching up and having fun. We’re rounding up a list of some of the best reasons why you should book a castle, some of the castles we recommend, and even some things to bring along to turn up the fun to level 11!

All About That Castle Fun

I mean, if you’re here and reading this we don’t really know if you need convincing that castles are a good time but we’ll tell you about how awesome they are anyway. We’ve also compiled some suggested entertainment, competitions, and even free printables.

Awesome Atmosphere & Locations

In addition to enjoying the ambiance of stately castles, and generally feeling like royalty you’ll still want to have fun with your nearest and dearest. Most castles we recommend have great on site amenities and activities. Some are located near wineries, surrounded by a fishing moat, nestled in the mountains for hiking or right along the beach.  Oh, and don’t forget to check out their amazing pools!

Food

Most castles aren’t located in the heart of the city as their locations tend to be a little remote. Even if you might not be able to have food delivered by Uber Eats, many of the castles have amazing kitchens, with some castles being fitted with commercial grade, large kitchens. Want more of a catered experience? Some of our castles also come with optional onsite chefs to cater to your culinary needs.

Castle Themed Activities

So you finally got everyone together and now what? Make memories that will last a lifetime with awesome themed activities that everyone can be a part of. Age 1 to 99, we’re sure that every family will enjoy them. And don’t worry- if you’ve got any uncles or brothers like ours there’s plenty of activities that will give them a chance to compete!

Host a Tournament Who doesn’t want to duke it out with you fun uncle or challenge your favorite cousin to a duel? Want to kick it up a notch? Make it a medieval tournament with stick pony jousting and archery!

Have a Ball (Dance Party) Fit for a King or Queen

Every good reunion should have a dance party and dressing up makes it that much more fun! If you want to make it fancy, there’s plenty of amazing costumes to take you straight to medieval times. If you’re looking for a more low key way to celebrate on theme, give each person a crown and let them dance the night away

Host a Feast

Cook yourself or have a chef (mentioned above) create a feat fit for you in your royal stay! Dress up (or don’t) and eat roasted chicken and veggies, cakes and other delicacies. Toast to your family in custom wine glasses that bear the family initial or name as a fun way to celebrate and a great take-home souvenir!

Watch a castle-themed film

Need a bit of R&R one evening after a day full of fun? We’ve compiled some of our favorite castle and medieval themed films- most are great for the whole family but we’ve thrown a few in there in case you’d like some more adult movies that will keep you in the castle spirit.

Color in a Castle

Have fun coloring in castle-themed coloring books or pages! This can be a fun activity for children and adults. You can have your friends and family color to their heart’s content and even have competitions for the ‘most creative’ or ‘most zany’ castle!

Entire Castles You Can Book

So now that we’ve told you why you should book a castle for your reunion, let’s take a look at the castles we recommend. We’ve got some castles in Ireland, Scotland, France, and even the US.

Irish Castles

When you think of the Emerald isle, you naturally think of amazing, old castles. Ireland has some of the most castles per square mile and we’ve rounded up three of our favorites that you can book for your whole family.

French Castles

It’s no secret that we love France. This beautiful country is filled with absolutely stunning chateaux, with many able to host over 20 people! Most also include pools and are located in charming villages near beautiful French cities.

American Castles

When you think of America, you don’t generally think of castles but we have found some awesome options for you if you’re looking to stay stateside. We’ve included three of our favorites here but we’ve got an entire page filled with more great options here.

Scottish Castles

Scotland has such a beautiful haunting history and it’s still filled with historic, stately, gorgeous castles. We had a hard time narrowing down our favorite to just three so we included a few more. Many of these beautiful estates are located near amazing cities and beautiful scenery, including famed loch Lomond. Golf lovers will also love their proximities to world class golf courses!
